FAQ

Frequently asked questions about EICRs

What does EICR stand for?

EICR stands for Electrical Installation Condition Report. It's a formal assessment of the safety and condition of an electrical installation in a domestic, rental or commercial property.

How often do I need an EICR?

Recommended frequency depends on the property type. For rental properties it's typically every 5 years or at each change of tenancy. For owner-occupied homes, every 10 years is often suggested. Commercial premises may require more frequent checks.

Do landlords legally need an EICR?

Yes. Since June 2020, landlords in England are legally required to have an EICR carried out at least every 5 years for all new tenancies, and from April 2021 for all existing tenancies.

What happens if my EICR is unsatisfactory?

The report will list observations with coded ratings. Any dangerous items need to be addressed promptly. We can carry out any remedial work identified and re-test where required.

How much does an EICR cost?

Our EICR reports start from £120 for a standard domestic property. Price varies depending on property size and number of circuits. Contact us for a specific quote.
